Question :
In the past people defended their country in many wars (by killing many or even millions of lives and made civilians suffered). Don’t they commit a lot of sins?
Answer :
In a situation of war, of course, an act of defending own country is a right or positive things to do. In this kind of situation, killing “enemy” is an unavoidable event. We could not say that it caused suffering to civilians, because they would suffer more if their country was invaded by others. As long as a war is not a mass destruction or attacking civilians, it is a “normal” and inevitable act. It is because of in the context of fighting against “enemy of own country”. The act has nothing to do with sins.
