Question :
Is a Taoist allowed to learn ways of Meditation and Qi Gong other than what is taught in our Temple? (I am sorry if my opinion is not correct). As for analogy, a child who is not capable in writing, of course he / she can’t write at all. Thank you.
Answer :
A child who wants to learn how to write has to be taught by a teacher. If he feels in school provide insufficient guidance, he could find another teacher to give guidance. It is not wrong. A person who wants to learn Meditation or Qi Gong could learn from anyone who he / she thinks more capable than him / her. Now what matter is what kind of meditation or qi gong he / she wants to learn? There are many kinds of meditation and qi gong taught. If Thay Sang Men kind of qi gong that is wanted to be learnt, of course he / she should search teacher who is expert in it. In this case, the teacher should be from Thay Sang Men too. Other than that, Our Cing Co (Meditation) and Qi Gong are related to our process of Siu Tao, and also related to Tao Ying Suk which we have obtained. For that reason, it is not only about “learning”, however it is more than that. It is about “learning from” and “being a student of”. It is for sure very different.
